While there are many words to define various human relations be it with a parent, a family member, a boss, an employee, a spouse, a pet; that one word that comes to mind is “Trust”
What is Trust? By definition it means to have faith and to believe in something or someone, it means to have reliability and truth. Trust is and always has been the foundation for various relationships that grow together and become stronger.
Why is “Trust” important for any business? It is very simple if a business isn’t reliable, the product doesn’t do what it promises or the service doesn’t solve the problem, there’s no way a person would spend another dime on it. Trust is important to build continuity and sustainability that is essential for a business to survive. Building Trust is also important to get that first sale, and to focus on your initial content and story.
How can we build this “Trust” for the business? Answer is simple, the same way you would build it with your parent, a pet, a stranger, anyone… the rules are simple
- Be there, show up everyday, like a bus ready to pick its passengers on time. Consistency is key.
- Communicate, like a mother would to her child, being clear, simple and truthful.
- Being authentic and honest, no one likes a lie no matter how small or irrelevant it may seem at the time, a lie is a lie.
- Communicate again, take feedback and criticism, correct it and come back again and most importantly be thankful and respond to every comment or feedback.
- Being omnipresent, being easily accessible to your customers on various social medias like Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, etc.
Keeping the above rules in mind a few key focus areas for your new business would be:
- Building a Relatable story: Why are you doing what you’re doing? This will show why you’re passionate about your product or service.
- Content; that is built around your story. It should be focused on the solution and it should be with the aim of giving value to its reader/viewer.
- Consistency and Predictability, being there at the same time on a designated or promised day and time will help you be predictable to your audience, they will know when and where to find you and they would be twice as likely ready to participate and reach out to you.
- Client/customer experience: Giving every client/customer the VIP treatment. Everyone wants to feel special and they would most likely remember the feeling more than the actual product or service you’re selling.
- Innovation and Improvement in your product or service: Asking and taking feedback is as important as making sales. Feedback will help you improve and stay relevant to your audience.
- And most importantly, adding that personal touch: Never losing sight of that human touch, voice or face of the brand. People are more likely to trust people, that means being an opinion, being a voice and then being a brand that people can trust.
Trust has a strong role to play in your strategy and never losing it should be your biggest gambit.
